Elikem makes music about modern African life—the confidence, pressure, humour and contradictions that come with trying to become somebody.
Born in Ghana and shaped by life in Britain, his sound brings modern Afrobeats together with highlife instincts. English, Pidgin and Twi move naturally through his writing, giving everyday observations the warmth, wit and directness of a real conversation.
The clearest way into his world is through “Joro Mi,” “Ghetto Politics” and “Social Dilemma.” One carries swagger, resilience and loyalty to his people. Another turns frustration with Ghanaian politics into something communal and chantable. The third looks beyond the perfect social-media image at the pressure and uncertainty underneath it.
Faith appears because it is part of his life, but it is not the whole story. So are money, ambition, government, friendship, love, doubt and joy. Elikem’s fingerprint is socially aware without becoming preachy, thoughtful without losing playfulness, and deeply African without sounding trapped in the past.
